Search by sender

How it works

Type from: followed by a name or an address. from:me means messages you sent yourself. In Google's examples the value is either a full address (from:amy@example.com) or just a name (from:amy).

Examples

• from:meOpen in Gmail ↗

  Messages you sent.

• from:amy@example.comOpen in Gmail ↗

  Messages from this exact address.

• from:amy OR from:davidOpen in Gmail ↗

  Messages from either person.

What it does well

• The me keyword saves you from typing your own address.
• Several senders at once by joining them with OR.
• Combines with the other operators (dates, attachments, labels) to narrow a search.

What it does badly

• Google's help doesn't say how from: handles a partial address or a bare domain name (from:example.com): its examples only use me, a first name or a full address. Not documented by Google · Gmail Help: search operators
